Special Focus

Human Genetics

Our department Human Genetics includes cytogenetics, FISH analysis, molecular genetics, next-generation sequencing (NGS) and molecular pathology. Even very rare hereditary or congenital diseases can be diagnosed by fine tuned step diagnostics.

Toxicology / Drug monitoring

The department Toxicology can detect more than 500 substances, drugs and their metabolites. For some of them our laboratory is the only analysis facility in Germany. Constantly new analyses are being established.

Oncology

Reliable oncological diagnosis is ensured by close interdisciplinary cooperation of all laboratory departments in our house. The spectrum ranges from tumor markers, through determination of genetic cancer risks to differential diagnosis of hemato-oncological diseases.

International clinical studies

Our laboratory and its scientific staff actively participate in medical research and clinical studies. Currently we are involved, for example, in the large-scale EU study on overweight in children: IDEFICS. We are always looking forward to new scientific projects.

Lifestyle diseases

With regard to lifestyle diseases (diabetes, dementia, heart diseases, obesity...), laboratory medicine fulfills the most important tasks: laboratory analyses to recognize diseases early on before manifest illness, diagnosis of diseases, analyses for personalized therapy approaches and therapy monitoring.

Infectious diseases and travel medicine

Infectious diseases are spreading rapidly, mutating and bringing new risks through the active travel behavior of modern societies. We detect viruses and bacteria for effective treatment and we clarify the immune status of patients before traveling to hazard areas.

Autoantibodies

Autoantibody testing is a cornerstone in the diagnosis of rare autoimmune diseases i.e. Myositis, SLE ... And many new identified Autoantibodies against intracellular neuronal proteins like Hu, Yo, Ri, CV2/ CRMP5, GAD65/67, and amphiphysin are well recognised biomarkers in several immune-mediated brain disorders.
